The Chahoua Gecko (Mniarogekko chahoua), also known as the Mossy New Caledonian Gecko, is native to the New Caledonian archipelago in the southwest Pacific. These geckos are renowned for their striking appearance, which includes a textured, moss-like skin that provides excellent camouflage in their natural forest habitat. They exhibit a range of color variations, from pale greens and browns to darker shades, enhancing their ability to blend into their surroundings. One of the most fascinating aspects of Chahoua Geckos is their ability to regenerate their tails. When threatened, they can drop their tails as a defense mechanism, which will eventually regrow, although it may differ slightly in texture and color from the original.

In addition to their unique appearance, Chahoua Geckos are known for their arboreal lifestyle, spending much of their time climbing and navigating through the trees of their native rainforests. They are primarily nocturnal, becoming active during the evening to forage for food. Their diet in the wild mainly consists of insects, fruits, and nectar, but in captivity, they are often fed a mixture of commercially available gecko diets and live insects. Chahoua Geckos are relatively easy to care for, making them popular among reptile enthusiasts. However, they do require a well-planted terrarium with plenty of climbing opportunities and a humid environment to mimic their natural habitat.
